" This is great news. I am truly honored," said Kygo.
The prize is awarded to a Norwegian artist or group who has excelled internationally throughout 2015.
“With Kygo’s formidable international success the award is very well deserved, said Norwegian Minister of Culture, Linda Hofstad Helleland as she handed Kygo the award during an official ceremony on June 3.
Along with a trophy Kygo received a grant of $12,300 USD (NOK 100,000), which he decided to donate to a supporting music environment of his choice. Kygo selected BRAK, a resource and Artist association in Western Norway – a place close to home and where it all began.
A total of five Norwegian musicians were nominated for the award, which is the first of its kind in Norway.
